Giovanna CalabreseWords create in the world of logos; images create in the world of spirit. When we say “I” we create self-consciousness; when we make an image of ourselves, either painting, taking photographs or video recording, our self-consciousness is expressing its self. Self-consciousness is the expression of Anima, therefore the images it uses are symbols of archetypes.

Looking at these images we must go beyond our personal history, so we can reconnect ourselves with the archetype that is in control of our identity. In my opinion this is the essential in the transpersonal approach of art therapy.

Giovanna Calabrese MD Born in 1963 in Italy she studied medicine. Her aim has always been to understand brain functioning so she went from psychiatry to neuroimaging. Facing the limitation of academic research she went to a transpersonal approach to explore the higher expression of mind: Self.
