John RowanABSTRACT

We shall look at Being, Knowing and Doing in transpersonal psychotherapy. This means the levels of consciousness involved, the techniques and practices that are used, and the theory behind it all. We shalll look at the two different levels within transpersonal psychotherapy.

Participants will think about the transpersonal in a way that is much fuller and more developed than anything they have been used to. They will realise that they are spiritual beings, and so is everyone else.

They will discover that if you approach people on the level of soul, they will respond on that same level. At the end of this talk participants will have clarified their ideas about transpersonal psychotherapy.

They will be able to distinguish between the state of consciousness necessary to do the work, the interventions appropriate to the work, and the theoretical knowledge necessary to understand the work. In particular, they will be able to use this whole approach to inform and improve their own work as psychotherapists.

They will appreciate that they have already been doing transpersonal therapy for years, only not necessarily calling it that.

They will also realise that when they are working transculturally, the transpersonal approach has much to offer, because it enables practitioners to understand the belief systems of other cultures in spiritual depth.
